Smart locks

Keyless entry that still works on a bad day

Smart locks are genuinely convenient, and they fail in ways ordinary locks don’t. Both of those things are true, and the installation is what decides which one you notice.

What you actually gain

No more keys for the kids to lose. A code you can give a tradesperson on Tuesday and remove on Wednesday. Knowing whether the door is locked without driving home.

For households where several people come and go at different times, it removes a daily small annoyance, which is worth more than it sounds.

What to think about first

Batteries go flat, usually at an inconvenient moment. A good smart lock has a mechanical override or an external power contact, and you should know which yours has before you need it.

Alignment matters more than with a normal lock: a motor has less force than your wrist, so a door that needs a nudge to lock will defeat it. Part of the job is making sure the door closes properly in the first place.

Fitting it properly

We check the door and frame, fit the lock so the bolt runs freely, set up the codes and app with you, and make sure everyone in the house can actually get in before we leave.

If your door isn’t suited to the lock you’ve bought, we’ll tell you before we start rather than force it.

Common questions

What happens if the battery dies?

Most smart locks warn you for weeks first, and nearly all have a backup — a physical key override or a contact you can hold a power bank against. We make sure you know which yours has before we leave.

Can you fit a lock I’ve already bought?

Yes. Tell us which one when you check a price. If it isn’t suited to your door we’ll say so before the visit rather than on the day.

Get a price for your smart lock installation

Answer what you can — anything you are unsure of, leave it. Your locksmith reads it and texts you a price, usually within the hour during business hours.

Asked first because it decides whether we can get to you — better to know now than after you have written the rest.

So we can call you back with a firm price.

Optional — but it is how we send you the price, with a button to accept it and pick a time. Without it we have to ring you.

Optional — but the more we know, the more accurate the price.

Optional, and the single thing most likely to get you a firm price without anyone coming out. The lock, the door, and the key if you have it.

Priced by the job, not by the hour — the figure you approve is the figure you pay for the job as described.*

*If your locksmith arrives and the job turns out genuinely different from what you told us — a different lock, extra doors, damage nobody mentioned — you get a plain explanation and a new figure before any work starts, and you can say no. Anything you haven’t agreed to is never charged.
