Sometimes a lock has simply had enough. Twenty years of weather and a few thousand turns will do that. Replacing it is straightforward — choosing the right one is where the value is.
Do you actually need a new lock?
Often not. A lock that’s stiff, or a door that needs a shove before the key turns, is frequently a strike plate that’s drifted a few millimetres, or a lock that hasn’t been serviced since it was fitted.
We’ll tell you when a repair will do. Selling you hardware you don’t need is a poor way to earn a second call.
Choosing what goes on the door
The right lock depends on the door — timber, aluminium, mostly glass, or a security screen all behave differently, and a lock that suits one can be a poor fit on another.
It also depends on how you live. A household with kids coming and going has different needs to one where the door is locked twice a day.
After a break-in or an attempt
A lock that’s been forced should be replaced even if it still turns — the internals take damage you can’t see, and it will fail at the worst moment.
It’s also worth looking at the door and frame at the same time. A good lock in a split jamb isn’t doing much.

Can you match my existing keys?
Often yes — new locks can frequently be keyed to your existing key so you don’t end up carrying more. Ask when you book and we’ll tell you whether it’s possible with your hardware.
Do you supply the locks?
We can, or we can fit hardware you’ve bought. Either way you’ll be told the price before the job starts.
